Two new LEGO Xtra sets officially unveiled for 2021

Forget it, Jake: it’s LEGO Chinatown. Or at least, it is in one of two brand new LEGO Xtra sets coming in 2021.

The first low-res images of the new polybag accessory sets appeared online a few days ago, but the LEGO Group has now listed both 40464 Chinatown and 40465 Food at LEGO.com. That means we now have clearer images, piece counts, prices and a release date for the new Xtra sets.

As expected, they’re both due to launch on January 1, 2021. 40464 Chinatown packs in 35 elements, including a hanging lantern, stone lantern, portable lantern, box of fireworks (the official product description stresses these are toys), bamboo, red fence elements and a round table with a teapot and teacups.

The 36-piece 40465 Food, meanwhile, contains a toy stove, pot, frying pan, two glasses, plates, fried eggs, baguettes, hot dogs, pretzels, bananas and melon slices, plus ketchup and mustard elements. That’s a veritable feast, even if it is one distinctly lacking in vegetables.

As is the norm for the LEGO Xtra range, you won’t need to break the bank to accumulate either (or both) of these polybags. They’ll retail for just £3.99 / $3.99 / €3.99, making them the perfect impulse buy for your next LEGO.com order (or LEGO Store trip).

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
