WATCH: LEGO Ideas 21335 Motorised Lighthouse’s lens is a gamechanger
LEGO Ideas 21335 Motorised Lighthouse includes a brand new lens element – and it could be a gamechanger for future LEGO sets.
The next crowdsourced set (which is also one of the theme’s most expensive to date) adapts a design by Sandro Quattrini, and in classic LEGO Ideas fashion, elevates it by introducing new elements. Among those are a 32×32 baseplate in dark blue for the first time, and – more impressively – a tiny Fresnel lens, designed to focus and reflect the lighthouse’s LED.
This is LEGO, though – so while that at first seems to be a single-purpose piece, it’s bound to show up in other themes before long. That’s what we’re predicting in our latest YouTube video, anyway, which discusses just how much of a gamechanger the new LEGO Fresnel lens is likely to be. Hit play on the video below to see just a few potential applications for this groundbreaking new element.

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
