Watch out for Amazon sellers inflating LEGO set prices on Black Friday

An unscrupulous Amazon seller is attempting to cash in on the LEGO Black Friday frenzy by inflating the price of 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers.

The insanely popular LEGO Star Wars set is currently listed for £44.99 on Amazon. That’s almost double its RRP of £24.99. Incredibly, though, the listing is marked as ‘was £49.99’, so it’s technically showing as 10% off.

While there are other options for buying the set from third-party sellers, none of them are anywhere close to the set’s RRP. And yes, that’s basically par for the course on Amazon. But what makes this seller so egregious is that they’ve also sponsored their listing, clearly hoping to snare unwitting buyers. Meanwhile, Amazon is selling the set in a separate listing for just a penny over RRP – but you’d never know unless you searched for it directly.

Alright, so this is technically the free market doing its thing, and the seller is technically free to charge as much as someone is willing to pay. And, of course, the onus is really on the buyer to do their own research. But if that research has brought them across Brick Fanatics, we reckon it’s only fair to warn them that there are better options out there.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
