Wendy’s roasts Overwatch over actually serious LEGO issue
Fast food chain Wendy’s celebrated National Roast Day yesterday by mocking Overwatch for the postponement of LEGO 76980 Titan.
Yep, those pesky corporate social media accounts are at it again, this time making light of what’s actually a pretty serious issue in the LEGO and video gaming communities. Earlier this week, the LEGO Group announced that it was pausing its planned launch of 76980 Titan to review its partnership with Activision Blizzard, the parent company behind Overwatch’s developer.
That’s because Activision Blizzard is currently at the centre of a horrific lawsuit, which paints a picture of a company-wide culture of harassment and abuse. Multiple video game companies, developers and publishers have spoken out about the suit, which alleges that Activision Blizzard’s management allowed and encouraged sexual misconduct towards its female employees.
You can read more on why it’s such a big deal by clicking here, but suffice to say that it’s an issue that’s affected plenty of people in ways that don’t really lend themselves to levity.
Someone forgot to tell Wendy’s, though, because the US fast food chain responded to a harmless ‘roast’ from the Overwatch League Twitter account with: “Can’t wait for those new LEGO sets.”
Yikes.
