What if LEGO made Ghostbusters sets when the film came out?

Those wondering what a LEGO model of the ECTO-1 would look like if it was made when Ghostbusters was first released finally have their answer.

When Ghostbusters premiered in cinemas in December of 1984, the LEGO Group had been producing sets for some time, but with limited experience with licenses as their first partnered theme would not release until 1999 in Star Wars. Despite all that, we can’t help but wonder what a LEGO Ghostbusters sets would have been like back then.

Thankfully, KenyonBrady on Reddit is on hand with one answer, imagining a retro-styled brick-built ECTO-1 within the classic LEGOLAND theme. The unofficial and fan-designed set takes the signature designs of the smaller LEGO cars from the 1980s and applies iconic Ghostbusters elements.

From the vintage wings at the rear of the vehicle to the essential equipment and ladders on top, every detail of the original ECTO-1 has been recaptured in the small-scaled build with an equally retro minifigure driving to the next supernatural emergency.

Whilst the LEGO Group has only been producing Ghostbusters sets as of fairly recently, they do have a massive model available right now ahead of the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie’s release on November 19. 10274 Ghostbusters ECTO-1 is out now for £179.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 and you can check out our in-depth review for more information on the build.
