The LEGO Group has launched a new competition in conjunction with the reveal of 21330 Home Alone, offering the chance to win a copy of the latest LEGO Ideas set by finding Kevin McCallister.

In an effort to ‘celebrate Kevins across the globe’, the LEGO Group has commissioned research into the popularity of the name Kevin – in partnership with Baby Names 2022 author Eleanor Turner – which has revealed that while it was a popular choice for boys in 1982, when the Home Alone character was born, it’s since dropped down the naming charts in the UK and worldwide.

The new contest is therefore designed to ‘get the name trending again’, for reasons that can only be described as tenuous, as the LEGO Group has hidden Kevin McCallister minifigures from 21330 Home Alone both online and in-store. From November 1 to 30, you’ll be able to get involved by finding the hidden Kevin minifigure at LEGO.com or in LEGO Stores.

Once you’ve found it, you’ll then be directed to the competition page by clicking on a link or scanning a QR code, where you can enter to win a copy of 21330 Home Alone and a $1,000 LEGO voucher. There’s no word on how many prizes are up for grabs, but the campaign release indicates there will be ‘several chances’ to win.

“Given the popularity of the name Kevin in the 1950s and 1960s and latterly the 1980s when Kevin McCallister would have been born, you’d be forgiven for wondering ‘where are all the Kevins?’” said Eleanor Turner. “Though the data suggests the name has had its heyday, there are still plenty of reasons to celebrate the name, and to join the LEGO Group’s global search in honour of one of history’s most-loved Kevins.”

Finally, there’s one more way to win if you’re based in one of five cities around the world, as the LEGO Group has installed life-sized statues of the Kevin McCallister minifigure near LEGO Stores in Chicago, New York, Brussels, Berlin and Paris. Each statue is emblazoned with a QR code that will take you to a webpage with activities and games (and, presumably, entry to the competition).

“The LEGO Ideas Home Alone House is one of our most exciting launches yet, and of course Kevin McCallister is the true hero of the story,” said LEGO Ideas’ Head of Global Marketing, Federico Begher. “Alex’s original design immediately struck a chord with us and we just knew we had to make it a reality. Home Alone has always united families and friends for the festive season, and we look forward to bringing people home together to build this new set.”
