The finest collection of builds that will be a show-stopping centrepiece of The LEGO House will feature in the Matserpiece Gallery, including three dinosaurs built with three LEGO systems – System, Technic and Duplo.

The LEGO House team, who are working on bringing fans a unique LEGO experience that celebrates the brick and company, worked closely with members of the AFOL community to come up with the dinosaur concept. Highlighting the company’s three core building systems – Duplo, System and Technic – three large scale t-rex models will take centre stage, one built in each system. A team of 26 AFOLs was consulted as part of the decision process on the most suitable subject matter.

To add some LEGO fun to the prehistory inspired builds, Senior Designer Stuart Harris explained that the question was asked, ‘what causes a dinosaur to roar?’ Stepping on a LEGO brick was the obvious answer, and each build shows the beast doing just that.

Harris revealed that it was unusual to build with Duplo and Technic at this scale, with the latter proving particularly challenging. The trickiest part was gluing the Technic bricks, which was a more painstaking process than it is with the usual giant System brick built models.

The exhibit is intended to continue to grow, with the eggs dotted around the dinosaurs’ feet due to ‘hatch’ at some point, leading to additional dinosaur models joining the display. Surrounding the three giant builds will be 17 works by talented AFOLs, which will rotate on a more regular basis than the long term dinosaur exhibits.
