Spider-man joins the LEGO MCU in this addition to the Captain America: Civil War subtheme, but is this set as explosive as it promises to be?

Cinema-goers could not wait for the reveal of Spider-man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and LEGO fans have been eager to snap up the character as a minifigure. It’s taken a little longer than the rest of the Captain America: Civil War sets, but now 76067 Tanker Truck Takedown is about to be released.

The windsock is a simple little build, looks about right and when knocked over tips the barrels up. In other small complementary builds news, a motorcycle is included for Hawkeye – perhaps with his lack of powers, he needed the help.

The bulk of the set is the titular tanker truck, but that doesn’t mean the truck is bulky. Compared to a LEGO City set, the truck is at a small scale that looks odd alongside the minifigures. It’s very quick to build, with little of interest along the way and a lack of detail.

The truck does have a neat little function – when the dial on the side is turned, large flame pieces send the roof of the tanker flying up – giving the impression that the tanker has just exploded. It works well, the back of the tanker pops off too, but the entire vehicle has been given over to this conceit. If the LEGO Group still made LEGO Studios sets, this would fit in well.

Of course the reason the set is so lacklustre is because it’s designed to get fans the remaining characters from the huge battle and complement 76051 Super Hero Airport Battle. Spider-man is new to this set, reflecting his Civil War appearance. Hawkeye is also a new version, thankfully with one of his expressions looking less stern.

This set would be difficult to justify at its retail price were it not for the minifigures – but with two unique minifigures and another shot at Vision, it will prove hard to resist for fans of the MCU.
