Don’t miss LEGO Dungeons & Dragons set before it retires

This LEGO Ideas set is a critical hit and already sold out in the US

Don’t miss LEGO Dungeons & Dragons set before it retires

One of LEGO Ideas’ most memorable and unique models is about to be retired and has already gone for good in the US, so there’s not much time left to avoid missing out.

We don’t see LEGO sets quite like 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale very often, even as diverse as LEGO Ideas can be. The one and only LEGO Dungeons & Dragons build so far is one of three models from the theme that are due to be retired on July 31, 2026, although it's now sold out in the US altogether ahead of that date, but still available in the UK and Europe (at least for now).

21348

Of those three, it’s easy to imagine 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale being overshadowed by 21350 Jaws and 21352 Magic of Disney, but there’s something magical about the first, and only LEGO Dungeons & Dragons set. Here’s why this model is a must-have for anyone and everyone, but especially fans of LEGO Castle and fantasy.

The legendary LEGO D&D minifigure series

You’re most likely aware of just how popular the LEGO D&D minifigure series was before it retired in 2024. The 12-minifigure range featured several iconic characters from the world of the role-playing game, but most importantly, it had customisable minifigures.

These minifigures represented the core classes from the game, lacking specific skin colours on their torsos and legs so as to mix and match parts. It was a genius move that made you want multiple of these minifigures, and you may not have realised that more can be found in 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale.

As legendary as that minifigure series was, they’re gone and can fetch lofty prices online. You can still get that same experience as part of the LEGO Ideas D&D set. Yes, this comes with a lofty price tag, too, but for that cost, you’ll get a massive display model, multiple monsters, and a built-in adventure.

Bursting with secrets and characters

As good as 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale looks on the outside, the model only gets better when you turn it around. More monsters await in the underground dungeon, as well as references to the role-playing game.

This is a fantastic space for posing the set’s minifigures, as well as any that you want to add to the model. The best part is that you can easily access this interior space by disassembling the model into its various modules. This consequently makes the whole set easier to transport, too.

The interior details don’t stop there, though. The tavern is simply packed with Easter eggs, despite the small space. Take time to appreciate these details as you put together 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale.

Displayable and Playable

A personal favourite feature of 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale is how you can play with the model. Practically every LEGO set comes with some kind of play feature, no matter how big and display-intended it is.

In 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale, play is the name of the role-playing game, and this has been integrated into the set with a narrative and adventure. I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons for over a decade now, and I was overjoyed to see that 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale has a free adventure to go alongside it. It narrates the story of the model and takes you through each module, minifigure, monster, and more.

It’s a built-in story, and the LEGO designers are the Dungeon Masters. I’ve played through this adventure with a group, and it was a blast to experience this incredible build in an all-new way. I love every part of 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale and am even considering a second copy to make the fan designer’s expansion.

While I’m personally hoping that more LEGO Dungeons & Dragons is on the way following this and the minifigure series, nothing has been confirmed. For now, I can only wholeheartedly recommend 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale before it retires on July 31.
