Following confirmation that LEGO Technic’s new blind boxes will carry the same codes as Collectible Minifigures, there are now three different things you can scan with the app.
Early reviews of 42233 Mighty Machines have indicated that the boxes carry the same data matrix codes as current Minifigures series, which can be scanned to identify what’s inside. Each data matrix code contains a string of numbers that correspond to a specific character – and Brick Search will instantly show you which one without having to memorise a bunch of long character strings.

It looks like the same will be true for 42233 Mighty Machines when they launch on August 1, which is great news given they’ll cost £4.49 / $4.99 / €4.99 apiece – or £1 / €1 more than LEGO Minifigures boxes in the UK and Europe respectively. (They’re the same price in the US.)
And it means there will now be three different things you can scan with Brick Search:
• Collectible Minifigures
• Technic Mighty Machines
• Every single LEGO set box
The first two are obviously geared towards collecting specific lines, but it’s worth knowing that Brick Search can scan the barcode on any LEGO set boxes you have to hand. So if you’re perusing the shelves of your local LEGO Store and wondering if the set you’re after is cheaper anywhere else, scan it with the app, and you’ll be taken to the product listing, where you can see live prices across major retailers in the UK.
It’s also a quick way to add a set you’re holding either to your collection (if you’ve just bought it) or to your wishlist (if you’re just looking at it on the shelf).
Brick Search members can enjoy unlimited use of the scanner for Minifigures boxes and – soon – Technic’s Mighty Machines. If you spot them on shelves ahead of their release date, get in touch with the Brick Search team via andrew@tiromedia.co.uk – you can help out your fellow collectors by getting the codes into the app as soon as possible.
Download Brick Search on iOS or Android and create an account now so you’re ready for the launch of 42233 Mighty Machines on August 1 and 71053 Shrek on September 1.
