LEGO Icons 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire officially revealed

The LEGO Group has finally dropped a full reveal of 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire, confirming the next Middle-earth set’s price, piece count and release date.

We got our first look at 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire earlier this month when an event page for a designer signing went live prematurely, but the LEGO Group has nevertheless waited patiently to fully reveal this follow-up to 2023’s 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell and 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr.

Coming in at 2,017 pieces for £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99, 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire is smaller and cheaper than either of its predecessors but has a far less favourable price-to-piece ratio (if you care about that sort of thing). It does include nine minifigures, though – only two fewer than Barad-dûr – among whom are Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, Farmer and Mrs. Proudfoot, Samwise Gamgee, Merry, Pippin, Rosie Cotton and Gandalf the Grey.

All but Gandalf appear to be brand new and exclusive at first glance too, with new designs for the returning hobbits and debut appearances for Farmer Proudfoot, Mrs. Proudfoot and Rosie Cotton. This is also the first LEGO The Lord of the Rings set since the theme returned under the Icons banner to split its piece count across several smaller builds, offering a sprinkling of the wider Shire alongside Bag End.

We’ve seen Bilbo’s hobbit-hole before in 79003 An Unexpected Gathering, but this is the first time the LEGO Group has tackled his eleventy-first birthday party, complete with alternative appearances for Merry and Pippin after their fireworks shenanigans and a function that allows Bilbo to ‘disappear’ after sliding the One Ring on to his finger. (If only LEGO minifigures had fingers.)

The LEGO Group is celebrating the launch of 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire with an exclusive short film starring Sean Astin, who played Samwise Gamgee in the original trilogy. “Not all those who wander are lost… especially when travelling through the astonishing detail of the Shire made out of LEGO bricks!” Sean said.

“From the smallest hobbit-hole to the grandest fireworks, building this set brought back so many fond memories of Middle-earth. Now fans can journey there themselves and build their own adventures.”

10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire will be available to purchase from April 2 for LEGO Insiders and April 5 for everyone else, and early adopters will receive 40761 The Lord of the Rings: Sméagol and Déagol for free until April 8, or while stocks last.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
