No LEGO set can last forever, so make sure you don’t miss out on those must-have models by keeping track of every retiring LEGO set in 2023 and beyond with our regularly-updated tables, all sorted by theme and by retirement date. Note that many sets sell out long before their scheduled retirement date, and remember that these dates are subject to change.

Retiring LEGO Star Wars sets

One of the most iconic LEGO themes isn’t immune to the passage of time, unfortunately. At the end of 2023, time will be up to grab several exclusive minifigures including those in 75326 Boba Fett’s Throne Room. While minifigures are a massive part of LEGO Star Wars’ selection year after year, we’ll also highlight 75292 The Razor Crest as one of the most affordable depictions of the iconic Mandalorian ship.

The first three LEGO Star Wars dioramas are retiring at the end of 2023 too. Beyond the end of the year, five Ultimate Collectors Series builds are leaving production in 2024.

Retiring LEGO Ideas sets

The fan-inspired theme has a smaller section than most other LEGO ranges. However, we’d advise not waiting much longer to pick up 21325 Medieval Blacksmith as it’s retiring at the end of 2023.

2024 looks to be a more expensive time to catch up on LEGO Ideas with several of the theme’s biggest models leaving the production line, including some that have been in circulation for much longer than others. Highlights include 21323 Grand Piano and 21318 Tree House, both departing after five years on shelves.

Retiring LEGO Marvel sets

With builds based on a wide array of Marvel media, LEGO Marvel’s retiring sets selection for 2023 is extensive. However, we’d advise making sure you have all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe minifigures you want sooner rather than later as the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Thor: Love and Thunder and one of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets are retiring.

Looking to the future, 2024 will see 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum and 76178 Daily Bugle retire for those waiting to add a superhero twist to their modular street.

Retiring LEGO Harry Potter sets

The immediate future of LEGO Harry Potter’s retiring sets isn’t quite as staggering as Star Wars, but it includes some of the more unique models in the theme’s lengthy history. These include 76403 The Ministry of Magic and 76408 12 Grimmauld Place.

There are also LEGO Harry Potter sets retiring in 2024 and 2025, including three of the four biggest builds currently available in 2024, followed by 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition in 2025.

Retiring LEGO Indiana Jones sets

LEGO Indiana Jones, at the time of writing, is the latest theme under the LEGO Group’s umbrella. so there’s no worry about any of the three current builds retiring at the end of 2023, though the dates are subject to change.

However, you might want to pick up 77012 Fighter Plane Chase, 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb and 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol before 2024 is through.

Retiring LEGO Technic sets

The first Fast & Furious set is retiring at the end of 2023, but it’s only a small part of the LEGO Technic selection of retiring models. 42131 App-controlled CAT D11 Bulldozer, one of the most expensive LEGO Technic sets is also due to retire at the end of 2023.

Many of the newer entries into the theme are retiring in 2024, so we’d recommend catching up on older models in the meantime. A few builds are sticking around until 2025 and one until 2026, so those should be your least prioritised purchases.

Retiring LEGO Icons sets

LEGO Icons is an especially diverse theme focused on display, and that makes it one of the more expensive themes available. Allocating a budget for LEGO Icons sets may take some time, but it means a list of exactly when its models are retiring is a useful resource to have.

Before 2023 is through, you’ll want to catch up on everything from modular buildings to the only LEGO PlayStation set ever released – 76989 Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck.

Retiring LEGO Architecture sets

Don’t expect LEGO Architecture’s list of retiring LEGO sets to change too much over the next few years as the theme has moved to a much smaller annual release schedule.

Looking to the immediate future, we’d advise prioritising 21054 The White House before 2023 ends.

Retiring LEGO NINJAGO sets

With a new series for LEGO NINJAGO coming later in 2023, it’s a great time to catch up on past models from Seabound, Crystalized and the nostalgic Legacy line. NINJAGO is one of a few themes to have its retiring selection split into two waves, with one in July and the other in December most years.

For 2023, the two upcoming waves of retiring models include a few notable entries with exclusive minifigures in 71774 Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon and 71775 Nya’s Samurai X MECH. Those getting started with the theme may be interested in 71767 Ninja Dojo Temple. In 2024, the massive 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens is currently scheduled to retire, though there’s no reason to prioritise that build just yet as it’s unlikely to sell out permanently at this time.

Retiring LEGO DREAMZzz sets

The LEGO Group’s latest original theme is all about nightmares and dreams, but with a lot more Zs. At the time of writing, all LEGO DREAMZzz sets are retiring at the end of 2024, so there’s nothing to worry about in the immediate future.

Retiring LEGO DC / LEGO Batman sets

Not quite as packed as Marvel, the slate of LEGO DC, or at this point just LEGO Batman builds is due to get a lot smaller next year with 2023 seeing the retirement of four of the five current sets for the Caped Crusader.

Out of the 2023 selection, 42127 The Batman – Batmobile pairs well with the new 42155 The Batman – Batcycle and the Caped Crusader’s LEGO Art model is the only currently-confirmed DC mosaic too.

Retiring LEGO Super Mario sets

Similar to NINJAGO, LEGO Super Mario’s array of retiring sets is split into two waves each year – one in July and one in December.

At the end of this year, 2023, there’s not a lot that longtime enthusiasts of the theme will want to prioritise unless you find yourself wanting the Power-Up in 71407 Cat Peach Suit and Frozen Tower or the big figures in 71412 Big Bad Island – both in July. Notably, the second LEGO set with Yoshi, 71406 Yoshi’s Gift House, is also retiring, but in December. At the time of writing, it seems unlikely to go out of stock long before then.

However, there’s been a huge change for the theme as of May 2023 with every single LEGO Super Mario set now retiring by July 31, 2024, at the latest, instead of July 2026. That’s two years of change, even for the starter courses, suggesting that either the theme or the course-building system could be on its way out.

Retiring LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets

Another LEGO video game theme has been revealed recently with Sonic the Hedgehog going from LEGO Dimensions to LEGO Ideas and now into his own theme.

Every LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set is scheduled to retire at the end of 2024 so as much as the theme is about speed, you can afford to wait until next year for these models.

Retiring LEGO Creator sets

LEGO Creator is home to nostalgic sets paying tribute to a variety of classic themes and they’re, unsurprisingly, some of the highest priorities when it comes to retiring Creator models.

For 2023, that includes 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent with an exclusive hair and circlet element. In 2024, both 31109 Pirate Ship and 31120 Medieval Castle are up for retirement at the time of writing, in case you want to set some money aside. As of May 2023, the theme has adopted a multi-wave retirement scheduled with 31123 Off-road Buggy now retiring this coming July instead of in December.

Retiring LEGO Speed Champions sets

LEGO Speed Champion’s retirement schedule is one of the most predictable in the LEGO Group’s portfolio with entire waves leaving production at once, usually with few exceptions.

For the next few years, there’s no change at the moment so make sure you pick up the entirety of the 2022 and some of the 2021 models before 2023 is through.

Retiring LEGO Collectible Minifigures

As LEGO Collectible Minifigures have a limited product selection with comparatively limited sale periods, there’s almost always only a few months to pick up the latest series before their exclusive minifigures retire for good.

Now that 71037 Series 24 has retired, you’ll want to ensure you have every minifigure you want from 71038 Disney 100 before the end of August 2023.

LEGO Disney’s 2023 selection of retiring sets is unusual with 10780 Mickey and Friends Castle Defenders leaving in July 2023. In May, that’s been joined by 43203 Aurora, Merida and Tiana’s Enchanted Creations.

With exclusive minifigures (and parts) for Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Donald Duck, you might want to grab 10780 Mickey and Friends Castle Defenders sooner rather than later. Similarly, 43203 Aurora, Merida and Tiana’s Enchanted Creations is useful should you need an Aurora or Tiana mini-doll to go with the minifigures in 71038 Disney 100.

Retiring LEGO Avatar sets

One of the newest LEGO themes under the LEGO Group’s banner, based on two of the highest-grossing films of all time, LEGO Avatar hasn’t got too many sets just yet, so there are only three to prioritise before they either run out of stock or retire at the end of the year.

As 40554 Jake Sully & his Avatar is a BrickHeadz pack, it may not have quite as much appeal as 75571 Neytiri & Thanator vs. AMP Suit Quaritch or 75573 Floating Mountains: Site 26 & RDA Samson. The latter has the most RDA builds and a pair of human minifigures too.

Retiring LEGO Jurassic World sets

For LEGO Jurassic World, the sets retiring in 2023 have some notable inclusions with dinosaurs only available in one model ever. We’d advise keeping an eye on 76947 Quetzalcoatlus Plane Ambush with the only appearance of the huge Quetzalcoatlus.

Looking further into the future, the 30th anniversary LEGO Jurassic Park sets are only currently planned to be on shelves for a year and a half.

Retiring LEGO Monkie Kid sets

LEGO Monkie Kid has plenty of rare minifigures and unique pieces to collect in dozens of sets at a wide variety of price ranges, including expensive entries.

At the end of 2023, there are nine LEGO Monkie Kid models retiring, as long as they don’t run out of stock before then. The larger sets may be some of the best to watch out for, in case they get a discount or run out of stock ahead of retirement.

Retiring LEGO City sets

LEGO City has one of the longest lists of retiring LEGO sets and while most of the models in it are generic, and befitting of the theme, there are quite a few retiring at the end of 2023 to keep an eye on.

With so many to track, we’ll stick to 2023 for now and highlight 60394 ATV and Otter Habitat for a cheaper method of obtaining the otters without grabbing 21338 A-Frame Cabin.

Retiring LEGO Art sets

The largest set, by piece count, is retiring at the end of 2023 with LEGO Art’s array of builds leaving production featuring four in 2023, none in 2024 and one in 2025. This means that in 2024 and 2025, there’s only going to be one LEGO Art set at the time of writing.

In the immediate future, time is running out to grab the colossal 31203 World Map. It could run out of stock before December 2023.

Retiring LEGO Friends sets

Similar to LEGO City, many of LEGO Friends’ retiring sets aren’t too exciting but currently, there’s an extra reason to consider catching up on older entries.

The original cast of LEGO Friends characters was recently retired, instead being used as secondary characters following a time jump. Many of their models are still available but at the end of 2023, that all changes. In particular, 41714 Andrea’s Theater School is useful outside of the theme for certain Collectable Minifigures and more.

Retiring LEGO Gabby’s Dollhouse sets

Another new theme is coming in summer 2023 with DreamWorks’ series Gabby’s Dollhouse getting four LEGO sets. Similar to Sonic the Hedgehog, the entire range is currently scheduled to retire at the end of 2024, so those interested can safely wait to pick them up unless this changes.

Retiring LEGO BrickHeadz sets

As the number of LEGO BrickHeadz exceeds 200, it’s almost time to say goodbye to many of the theme’s previous models.

Out of the upcoming selection retiring in 2023, 40622 Disney 100th Celebration only launched earlier in 2023 and is a good way to commemorate the anniversary. Otherwise, some of the 2020 BrickHeadz are retiring later this year, likely your last chance to grab them unless they receive a last-minute extension.

Retiring LEGO DOTS sets

LEGO DOTS is one of the most important retiring entries in 2023 as the end of the theme draws near. Every single LEGO DOTS is retiring as the concept of the theme is absorbed into other product ranges.

41962 Unicorn Creative Family Pack is retiring first in July, followed by the Harry Potter, Disney and more standard sets in December.

Retiring LEGO Minecraft sets

Minecraft shows no sign of stopping at the moment but LEGO Minecraft isn’t quite as immune to the passage of time. Many of its sets are retiring in 2023.

This includes the massive and eye-catching 21188 The Llama Village as well as 21187 The Red Barn. LEGO Minecraft has been keen to feature exclusive minifigure player skins as of late. However, any new mobs, or creatures, tend to find their way into multiple models the following year.

Retiring LEGO Seasonal sets

The highlight of the retiring LEGO Seasonal sets is the trio of Chinese Traditional Festivals builds for 2023 but released at the end of 2022.

80111 Lunar New Year Parade includes the necessary parts to finish a purple Classic Space minifigure as well as several other exclusive minifigures in a unique parade float build.

Retiring LEGO Classic sets

LEGO Classic’s boxes of bricks might not be quite as high to prioritise as other themes when it comes to retiring sets. An important update to consider is that the theme has now embraced the multi-wave retirement schedule with 11015 Around the World now retiring in just a couple of months.

However, we’d note that at the end of 2023, 11021 90 Years of Play will retire, including the interesting Tahu figure and more miniature models celebrating 90 years of the company.

Retiring exclusive LEGO sets

A select few LEGO sets don’t wholly fit into any one theme, hence why they’ve got a special section to help you keep track of when they retire.

It’s not a huge list and is unlikely to grow too much bigger, only including 40574 LEGO Brand Store and 40634 Icons of Play right now, both with a retirement scheduled for the end of 2024.
