LEGO Super Mario 71411 The Mighty Bowser is inspired by the games

The upcoming LEGO Super Mario 71411 The Mighty Bowser set is one of the most unique models in the theme so far, but it’s still inspired by the games.

At 32cm high, 71411 The Mighty Bowser is by far the biggest figure in LEGO Super Mario so far, complete with articulation and interaction with the existing course-building system. As big as the figure in LEGO Super Mario 71411 The Mighty Bowser is, it’s not too large to be inaccurate for the Super Mario series as Bowser has appeared in giant form more than a few times.

From Isle Delfino to the stars above, here are some of the mainline Super Mario games that 71411 The Mighty Bowser might be inspired by and the title that we think is the most likely source material.

4 – Super Mario Sunshine

In Super Mario Sunshine, Bowser took on a giant form as the final boss, sitting in a huge hot tub. While the size of Bowser is right, the surroundings for this encounter don’t exactly match 71411 The Mighty Bowser.

3 – New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Also appearing as the final boss, Bowser appears at a huge scale again in New Super Mario Bros. Wii in a stony labyrinth, which is closer to the base build in 71411 The Mighty Bowser but still not quite right.

2 – Super Mario Galaxy 2

Giant Bowser is the main antagonist of the Super Mario Galaxy 2 sequel and we speculate that this game is the most likely source material for 71411 The Mighty Bowser thanks to the title’s boss battle. The final confrontation of Super Mario Galaxy 2 starts on a carpeted platform with a castle in the background used as Bowser’s throne, with towers for armrests. This closely resembles the stage found in 71411 The Mighty Bowser, making it a likely inspiration for the set.

1 – Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

The Bowser’s Fury add-on featured in the enhanced version of Super Mario 3D world for Nintendo Switch from 2021 is one of the most recent appearances of a giant Bowser and may have been the excuse the LEGO Super Mario design team needed to bring 71411 The Mighty Bowser to life. While that’s only speculation, it’s still worth mentioning considering how recent the game is compared to the others.
