New LEGO Technic modules shed light on the future of SPIKE

LEGO Education’s SPIKE Prime will soon see more Technic modules added to the catalogue of technology on offer for the tool, including more motors and a new type of light.

SPIKE Prime is the new basis for most current LEGO Education kits, offering a digitally-enhanced way of learning that teaches pupils skills in programming, problem-solving and more. There are even those outside of schools who have used the system to create inventive, automatic machines. LEGO.com has now revealed a few fresh items coming to SPIKE Prime in the future, including one due soon.

LEGO Technic 45608 3×3 Color Light Matrix is one of three new SPIKE Prime products that have been discovered on the official website and have yet to release. This is also the only product to also feature an accompanying image, showcasing what we can expect the module to look like when it launches, as indicated by the stated year on LEGO.com, sometime in 2021.

The other two items come from a REACH legal document list, concerning safety statements for sets that contain batteries. With names like 45609 Small Hub and 45612 Small Hub Battery, it seems likely that these Technic products will form the next stage of the SPIKE Prime line of educational models, possibly in a new expansion. Although nothing has been confirmed Brickset has listed 45345 SPIKE Essential Set, meaning one could be on the way.
