The 10 biggest LEGO sets officially released in 2021

The LEGO Group broke its own records again and again in 2021 with multiple huge sets released in one year, and here are the 10 biggest builds.

Whether you want to recreate one of the most well-known ships in history or visit a galaxy far, far away with a trip to the icy planet of Hoth, the LEGO Group produced more than a few massive models aimed mostly at an older audience.

The LEGO for Adults lineup has seen considerable growth in 2021, and here and the 10 biggest sets that launched in the past 12 months, including some that broke records.

10 – 76178 Daily Bugle

LEGO Marvel 76178 Daily Bugle is not only one of the largest creations launched in 2021, but it is also the biggest and most expensive Marvel model ever made, beating 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier.

Featuring a wide array of exclusive minifigures from the many iterations of Spider-Man, including the first Daredevil and Punisher minifigures, even J. Jonah Jameson would struggle to find something wrong with 71678 Daily Bugle, as noted in our review.

9 – 42131 CAT D11 Bulldozer

LEGO Technic 42131 CAT D11 Bulldozer is tied for the most expensive set in the theme yet, thanks in no small part to the wealth if included elements and motorised bricks. These allow it to be used via the free CONTROL+ app, which has also been a popular feature in Technic models in 2021.

As a crossover between LEGO Technic and LEGO for Adults, 42131 CAT D11 Bulldozer was one of the last on this list to be launched, landing on shelves in October. It’s also one of the biggest sets that is still in stock on the official online store.

8 – 21330 Home Alone

LEGO Ideas 21330 Home Alone is based on a submission to the platform from fan designer Alex Storozhuk that has proved definitively that it had enough support to become an official model. With 3,955 pieces and five minifigures recreating some of the cast from the classic holiday movie, 21330 Home Alone launched just in time for Christmas and quickly sold out.

The build has everything you need to recreate some of the most iconic scenes from the film, complete with the various booby traps that Kevin sets up to foil the Wet Bandits. We also reviewed this set in 2021, so you can check out every corner of the McCallister’s home.

7 – 21226 Art Project

LEGO Art 21226 Art Project is one of three LEGO Art builds on the list, comprising nine mini mosaics and featuring a vast amount of bricks to customise them with. As only the second original creation not based on a licensed intellectual property, 21226 Art Project trialled something new for the LEGO Group – building together.

This idea has been expanded as of late with the Build Together app, though the Art set can also be built alone by filling up the nine spaces or making one larger design that pays homage to Classic Space.

6 – 31201 Harry Potter Hogwarts Crest

31201 Hogwarts Crests allows you to represent your respective house from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in your home, such as Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

For those who don’t want to choose between any of the four houses, the set also lets you feature all of them on a single, massive mosaic that uses four copies of the set.

5 – 10284 Camp Nou FC Barcelona

Following in the footsteps of 10272 Old Trafford, 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona is another stadium recreation representing the Spanish club in bricks and featuring plenty of details and references to spot.

As mentioned in our review, you don’t have to be a Barcelona fan to enjoy the build of 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona. It even received a dedicated GWP when it first launched.

4 – 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens

2021 was an anniversary year for LEGO NINJAGO as it has been a decade since the theme first started its journey to become a product line that would eventually shape the future of action-adventure themes from the LEGO Group.

To mark this occasion, the biggest LEGO NINJAGO set ever made was released in the form of 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens, a huge and towering model designed to connect with both previous NINJAGO City builds. There are too many details to mention here, but we’ve got a lengthy review for you to read through.

3 – 75313 AT-AT

Only one LEGO Star Wars manages to make its way onto this list, with 75309 Republic Gunship just missing out by around 500 pieces. Despite that, 75313 AT-AT is worthy of its spot as the third-largest creation released in 2021.

This enormous replica includes every corner of the Imperial walker recreated in bricks, even down to the interior rooms that can fit a surplus of minifigures. We’ve given the set both a full review and a question-answering video to find out more about it.

2 – 10294 Titanic

LEGO for Adults10294 Titanic is arguably the biggest LEGO set of all time, though misses out on that record when it comes to the piece count. Including 9,090 bricks in one mammoth build, the set aims to pay homage to the engineering icon by recreating it as seen during its heyday.

The huge 10294 Titanic is not only packed with detail on the exterior but the cross-sections of the ship also feature a peek into the many rooms and facilities that were present on the real ship.

1 – 31203 World Map

For those who would have guessed that a LEGO Art set would be not only the biggest set of 2021 but the most enormous to ever release on the official online store, you’d be right.

LEGO Art 31203 World Map has surpassed all other contenders for the title with 11,695 included pieces, the vast majority of which are single stud elements and tiles. Despite that, the size of the set cannot be understated as it will take up more than a bit of space on your wall as you can see in the images featured in our in-depth review.
