A Minecraft Movie drops first block-buster trailer
The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie has been released, revealing an early look at what fans can expect from the upcoming live-action video game film.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Jack Black and Jason Momoa would be starring in a live-action adaptation of Mojang’s massively popular Minecraft game. Those rumours ultimately proved to be true, with the actors joining the rest of the film’s cast for an adventure in the Overworld, as featured in the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie.
Hitting cinema screens worldwide on April 4, 2025, A Minecraft Movie features Jack Black as the video game’s eponymous hero, Steve. Directed by Jared Hess, the Warner Bros. and Legendary film also stars Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Jennifer Coolidge.
The first footage for A Minecraft Movie features plenty of the game’s mobs and locations, including the Overworld, as well as sheep, llamas, piglins and ghasts. The look and feel of Minecraft appears to be present and correct, with the film’s cast pulled into the cubic environment via a mysterious portal.
The LEGO Minecraft theme recently dropped its first-ever 18+ set, with 21265 The Crafting Table having launched on August 1. In addition, 21281 Baby Pig’s Birthday Celebration will be arriving on October 1, priced at £17.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 for 351-pieces.
There’s no word yet on whether we’ll be getting any official LEGO Minecraft sets based on A Minecraft Movie, but we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for our very own Jack Black minifigure at some point in the future.
Video game fans will be able to check out A Minecraft Movie next year, when the film premieres on the big screen from April 4, 2025.
