Here’s a better look at LEGO 40589 Pirate Ship Playground

A better image of LEGO 40589 Pirate Ship Playground has surfaced through the building instructions portal, offering a clearer look at the promotional set.

It’s not yet clear exactly how, where or when the 168-piece set will be available, but the product number suggests it could be a gift-with-purchase at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores. It’s also conceivable that it might show up in the VIP Rewards Centre, to be purchased with VIP points, as per 40585 World of Wonders earlier this year – or it may just be available to buy outright.

The contents of 40589 Pirate Ship Playground definitely follow in the footsteps of last year’s 40529 Children’s Amusement Park, combining a couple of young minifigures with a playful setting, which suggests this just might be intended as a gift-with-purchase for International Children’s Day in May (as was the case for 40529).

All we know for sure at the moment – thanks to the official building instructions portal – is that 40589 Pirate Ship Playground includes a pirate ship slide, beach, palm tree, octopus, treasure chest, crab and two minifigures. It’s a fun and colourful build that you probably wouldn’t be unhappy to see added to your basket as a freebie – provided the spend threshold isn’t too high.

Two more gifts-with-purchase have already been officially revealed today in 40588 Flowerpot and 40590 Houses of the World 2, so there’s every chance we’ll get more details on 40589 Pirate Ship Playground very soon.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
