Billy Dee Williams to return as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode IX

The baron of smooth, Billy Dee Williams, is set to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode IX.

Billy Dee Williams is reported in the Hollywood Reporter to be returning to his most famous and caped role, Lando Calrissian, in the next Star Wars film. Following the passing of Carrie Fisher, it seems that Williams will provide the dose of nostalgia that would otherwise be missing from Episode IX. He has continued to voice the character in video games and animated content since his last on-screen appearance in 1983.

The character of Lando was introduced in The Empire Strikes Back, providing some much needed diversity to the core cast, and a potential new ‘rogue’ character should Harrison Ford have not signed to reprise his role in Return of the Jedi.

In the LEGO world, The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay had some fun and cast Williams in the role of Two Face, as he had played Harvey Dent in the 1989 Tim Burton Batman film, and had not had the opportunity to play the villainous version of that character.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has returned to the franchise to direct the sequel to The Last Jedi, which is currently in production. Shooting is expected to start later this year, with casting news now beginning to trickle out. As well as the news about Williams, recent reports expect Keri Russell to be added to the case.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled to be released on December 20, 2019. The current LEGO Star Wars sets are available now at [geot exclude_country=”United States”]shop.LEGO.com[/geot][geot country=”United States”]shop.LEGO.com[/geot].
