Break out of prison island in new LEGO escape room

If you’ve ever completed an escape room and thought ‘that needed more LEGO’, well, good news: the LEGO Group has just launched a brand new LEGO escape room.

The bad news is that you’ll need to travel all the way to Hong Kong to check it out, because the experience has been developed in conjunction with local escape room company Lost. Split over two rooms, the scenario has shades of the Stanford prison experiment, casting players as either convicts trying to escape their shackles or prison guards trying to prevent a jailbreak.

Both of the rooms – which are themed around LEGO City’s new police sets, such as 60419 Police Prison Island, and aimed at players aged six and up – make use of LEGO elements to activate certain puzzles and mechanisms. They’re open now through June 30, reports Time Out, at two different locations in Hong Kong: Lost’s Causeway Bay branch and the Lost Junior New Town Plaza. Each ticket comes with a coupon for a ‘special LEGO souvenir’.

This isn’t the LEGO Group’s first foray into escape room territory. In October last year, the company launched an escape room experience in London to celebrate the debut of its new ‘Play is Your Superpower’ campaign, combining brick-based puzzles and clues across three separate rooms.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
