Build a bonsai tree in 15 bricks for the latest LEGO Ideas activity

The latest LEGO Ideas activity challenges builders to assemble a mini bonsai tree using just 15 bricks.

As is often the case with LEGO Ideas activities, there’s a not-so-subtle tie-in to a brand new set – in this case, the highly-sought-after (and constantly out of stock) Botanical Collection 10281 Bonsai Tree.

Bonsai builds have sprung up across the web since the 18+ set launched in January, but not everyone has the parts collection to create something to the scale of the official model. The newest LEGO Ideas activity recognises that fact by challenging builders with creating a miniature version of the tree with just 15 elements.

The current deadline for the activity is February 2 at 9am UK time, which is pretty tricky to meet if – like most of us – you’re bound by the laws of space and time. Presumably that will soon be adjusted to February 23 at 9am, in line with the usual submission window for Ideas activities.

As always, there’s no prize for taking part beyond your own sense of self-satisfaction, but if you’ve been looking for an excuse to break out your bricks, this is it. Head over to the activity page for all the details, and to check out all the submissions so far.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
