Seven changes to Brick Search’s minifigure scanner
Brick Search has redesigned and upgraded its minifigure scanner to be the most reliable and best-performing Collectible Minifigure scanner ever – here are seven ways how.
Originally launched as the first of its kind in January 2024 with the advent of scannable codes on Collectible Minifigure blind boxes, Brick Search’s minifigure scanner has since helped more than 1 million people scan and identify who is inside Collectible Minifigure boxes across three series in 2024 – Series 25, Series 26 Space and Dungeons & Dragons series.
Ahead of January 2025’s Series 27 – a collection of 12 Collectible Minifigures that certainly has a mix of characters between those you’ll not want to miss out on and others you’ll definitely only want one of – Brick Search has completely revamped its minifigure scanner. Here are seven changes made that explain why this matters and why Brick Search is labelling this the best scanner ever.

1 – Offline scanning

The biggest change that Brick Search has introduced with its completely redesigned minifigure scanner is the ability to work offline without phone signal or internet connection of any kind.
That means that wherever you are – in the middle of a forest, in a submarine, in a supermarket with no signal or a busy LEGO shop where everybody is on their phone at the same time – you will be able to scan Collectible Minifigures with Brick Search’s minifigure scanner for instant, in-camera results.
2 – Full-screen scanning

Brick Search’s new minifigure scanner is now full screen, meaning wherever you put a scannable minifigure code on screen the scanner will scan it. The old version of the scanner required placing the scannable code within a smaller window in the middle of the screen. This move to full-screen scanning is a small change but one that makes for a far more convenient and easy scanning experience.
3 – Minifigure results only

Not many people know this, but Brick Search’s minifigure scanner was a modification of the app’s original LEGO set scanner. This dual functionality of the scanner has some very exciting potential for the future, but in its original set-up it also meant that LEGO set barcodes could also be scanned to bring up in-app LEGO set results, and this included Collectible Minifigure series. So, if you caught the barcode on the bottom of a Collectible Minifigure box, rather than the scannable QR/data matrix code, then it would load the full series result, rather than show you which character was inside the box.
This is now fixed and barcodes for Collectible Minifigures are now no longer scannable. The only codes on Collectible Minifigure boxes that can be scanned are the QR/data matrix codes that reveal which character is inside.
4 – Instant, in-camera results

Brick Search’s new minifigure scanner has also streamlined the scanning experience by introducing in-camera scan results. Instead of scans loading a result on a separate page, each scan will instantly show the result of what’s inside in the same screen, meaning faster, clearer results all within one page, making for a much easier scanning experience. You can even scan one-handed now!
5 – Scan multiple minifigures

Removing the requirement to load a new page for the result of each scan and shifting to in-camera results also means Brick Search has been able to introduce multi-minifigure scanning. This change means that you can scan at least seven Collectible Minifigures in one go now, if you so wish…
6 – A sleeker server
Brick Search has also shifted to a new, improved and much larger server to help deal with the high volume of users on the app. It’s not a change you can spot, but it’s one you will feel as performance and speed will be much faster and more reliable in those busy moments when hundreds of thousands of you are scanning at the same time (like launch day for a new series of Minifigures…)
7 – Scan counter

The new minifigure scanner from Brick Search also includes a subtle but interesting new feature in the form of a scan counter. Now you can keep track of how many of these little Collectible Minifigure boxes you really pick up and scan…
All these changes amount to a complete redesign of Brick Search’s minifigure scanner and combined make for the most convenient, reliable, fastest and best Collectible Minifigure scanning experience ever, one that works even offline.
