Comparing LEGO Marvel Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E. to its robotic replica

The MCU has inspired another new LEGO Marvel movie model, but how does 76339 The Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E. compare to its on-screen counterparts?

Following last year’s 76316 Fantastic Four vs. Galactus Construction Figure, we now have a second superhero set spinning out of the 2025 MCU movie. Launching on August 1 will be 76339 The Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E., a brick-built recreation of one of the loveable robotic assistants seen in the film, a model that at first glance seems to stack up well next to it cinematic counterparts.

Taking an initial look at the LEGO Marvel build reveals that the set’s design team appears to have assembled a fairly-accurate version of the Humanoid Experimental Robot B-Type Integrated Electronics (H.E.R.B.I.E.) character, so let’s see how closely the set matches its mechanical namesakes.

Small but sturdy

The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ director, Matt Shakman, used practical on-set puppets of H.E.R.B.I.E. while making the movie, with the full-size robot prop measuring over 142cm tall. In comparision, 76339 The Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E. comes in at over 23cm tall, but the much smaller version is still packed with plenty of charm and even a few functional features.

The sturdy black 7×7 hemisphere base of the LEGO Marvel model utilises a single solid piece (a recoloured Sonic the Hedgehog element), which should provide 76339 The Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E. with plenty of stability when placed on display.

Tape-recorder eyes

The retro-futuristic look of The Fantastic Four: First Steps resulted in the comic book H.E.R.B.I.E.’s eyes being replaced with two reel-to-reel tape-recorder eyes. That look is mirrored in 76339 The Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E., with a pair of what are most likely printed pieces that automatically rotate when moving the robot’s head.

However, there’s no physical tape connecting those elements, which is a minor loss, but understandable considering the wear and tear the LEGO Marvel set is likely to go through.

Articulated arms and fingers

76339 The Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E. boasts a pair of articulated arms, which can be posed at the shoulders and bent at the elbows, plus three claw-like fingers on each hand, matching the movie versions. The character is therefore able to hold a couple of brick-built accessories that are included in the LEGO Marvel set – a drinking mug and a screwdriver.

Secret storage

One highlight of 76339 The Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E. are what seem to be two printed pieces on the front of the character. In addition to the iconic ‘4’ logo on its chest, the robot’s name appears on its lower axel, a removable panel that can be detached to allow access to an interior storage area for H.E.R.B.I.E.’s accessories.

76339 The Fantastic Four H.E.R.B.I.E. will be released on August 1, 2026, with the LEGO Marvel set priced at £59.99 / $74.99 / €69.99 and available to pre-order right now.
