How to build the best part of LEGO City's retiring space sets with Pick a Brick

The pieces that make up the core module of LEGO City's recent space sets are retiring this year, but we've put together the parts lists so you can order as many as you like from Pick a Brick.

From space stations to rovers, most of LEGO City's 2024 space sets – and one from earlier this year – all feature a central, modular component that can be customised and repositioned to change the look of any other build and make a LEGO space collection that is unique to you.

Unfortunately, all of these models are due to retire later this year, and they'll take with them some of the pieces needed to make up these simple but genius modular sections.

It's not too late to catch up on this slice of LEGO space history, though, with all of the elements required to make the core component still available at the time of writing. You won't want to wait too long to score these necessary pieces, as their upcoming retirement means they could sell out any day.

Read on for everything you need to know about making the core module for yourself using the official Pick a Brick service, all without breaking the bank.

The parts lists

There's no need to scour Pick a Brick for the elements you need to make this retiring LEGO set core; we've done all the hard work for you. In this section, you'll find three comprehensive parts lists: one for the module, one for a display base that we devised in 2024, and one that combines both of those builds.

We've split the files needed for these parts lists into CSV or JSON files. Both will work on Pick a Brick, so it's entirely up to you which one you want to download. You only need one of the two files to upload to the official online store, which includes everything needed to make the corresponding model.

Click either of the links below to download the parts list for just the module. Then, upload the file to Pick a Brick (more on that process to come) to add all of the pieces to your purchase in just a few clicks. The parts for the module cost just over £14 in the UK, packing a lot into a small price.

The instructions

You're also going to need the instructions for the module itself, but these are easy to come by thanks to the free online database of LEGO instructions and the number of sets this build is included in. We've used the third manual for the sold-out 60433 Modular Space Station, but the design is nearly identical across the range. You can ignore any steps with furniture (like the bed) or stickers, since they're not included in our parts lists or needed for the base design.

You're free to customise the creation for yourself afterwards, but first you'll need to make the core itself. Act fast, just in case these elements follow in the footsteps of 60433 Modular Space Station and retire for good.

How to upload a parts list to Pick a Brick

lego PAB parts list guide 1 1200x733

The only step that's left for you to secure the parts needed to build your own core module is to upload the parts list. This isn't hard at all and is a three-step process. First, head to Pick a Brick and find the button that says 'upload list'.

This will open a pop-up inviting you to upload a template document in either the CSV or JSON format. Upload your chosen parts list here by dropping it in or clicking 'choose your file' and selecting the document. You'll then see the name of the document to verify that it is correct, as well as how many pieces total are in the list, and how many are unavailable when you order.

In the event that not all pieces are available to order, you have two choices: check back another day to see if they're all in stock, or make a note of which pieces are unavailable (Pick a Brick will show you) and source those particular parts elsewhere. At the time of writing, everything for all three parts lists provided above is available. Once you're ready, click 'view all pieces' to exit the pop-up and see the full list of parts you can add to your basket.

There's no need to scroll through and add them individually. Just hit the blue 'Pick selected pieces' button at the top of the page, and you're all ready to add the Pick a Brick order to your overall LEGO.com basket using the orange button. From here, the page will function as normal, and you can proceed to add another document's worth of parts or any extra pieces you have in mind.

It's at this point that you'll be able to see the price for your order, which may include a service fee if the total price is too low. The solution is here to add more parts, and maybe an astronaut minifigure or two.

Orders from Pick a Brick typically take at least a week and most just less than a month to arrive, depending on what you have ordered. For these elements, you're probably looking at a shorter delivery window since nothing is too specific or exclusive to a single set.

Head to Pick a Brick now and upload your parts list

Don't forget the minifigures

An expanded LEGO space station, rover or spaceship wouldn't be complete without some extra astronaut minifigures, and there's still time to catch up on the retiring LEGO City astronauts from the recent sets, with all of their pieces to be found on Pick a Brick right now.

Below you'll find parts lists for each of the LEGO astronauts ready to upload directly to Pick a Brick. Do note though that you can only upload one parts list at a time: the next one you upload will overwrite the previous pieces. So if you've already added one of the parts lists further up this post to your bag and just want to add on a few astronaut torsos, helmets and so on, you can also click through individual pieces in the table further down.
