See every iteration of the LEGO Horizon Shell-Walker in behind-the-scenes video

Ahead of its release on March 1, hear from the people behind LEGO Horizon 77037 Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth on how it got made.

Several months after the release of the accompanying video game, 77037 Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth is finally about to hit shelves, bringing the digital world to life. Made up of 768 pieces and with two minifigures of Aloy and Varl, you can bring the adventures into the physical world.

In a new video, the teams from the LEGO Group and Studio Gobo, the studio behind LEGO Horizon Adventures, have revealed some of their favourite elements from the upcoming model.

“I really liked developing the build for the Shell-Walker because of its weird shapes,” explained Joseph Kyde, Senior Model Designer at the LEGO Group. “It’s got that hexagonal cargo pod on the back, which was an extremely challenging build to make out of LEGO elements. It was one of my favourite examples of problem-solving.”

Joseph went on to design several potential iterations of the Horizon machine, which he walks viewers through in the video. The first stayed closer to the concept in the game, one used a snowflake element, one tested out a Technic wheel, before the end result was produced using two interlocking parts built separately.

“That’s just one example of where I spent days and days going back and forth on different ideas,” he concluded with a smile.

There are plenty more interesting behind-the-brick tidbits from Joseph and the rest of the team who worked on 77037 Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth in the five-minute video, from what inspired the design to what the teams at both the LEGO Group and Studio Gobo hope fans get from the set.

77037 Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth is available to pre-order on LEGO.com and on Brick Deals right now for £39.99 / $49.99 / €49.99, ahead of its release on March 1.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
