First look at LEGO DC 30653 Batman 1992 polybag

A brand new LEGO DC polybag is on the way this summer, featuring the first-ever minifigure of Batman from Tim Burton’s 1992 classic Batman Returns.

Things have been relatively quiet for LEGO DC for over a year now, but the LEGO Group is rumoured to be bringing Batman back in style this summer with a range of playsets. Among those may be at least one model based on the 1992 movie Batman Returns – at least if 30653 Batman 1992 is anything to go by, because this brand new polybag will feel a little out of place if not.

As revealed by LEGO YouTuber and fan media just2good (and through an image published by Brickset), 30653 Batman 1992 includes the Dark Knight stood atop a stone plinth, which repurposes the gargoyle build from 76139 1989 Batmobile, 76161 1989 Batwing and 76240 Batmobile Tumbler. The minifigure also sees the return of the moulded cape-and-cowl combo from the 1989 sets, only this time with an updated logo to reflect the 1992 sequel movie design.

There are also subtle changes to the torso, making this a brand new and exclusive LEGO Batman minifigure – so to say it will be available in an affordable polybag is pretty surprising. Just how accessible that polybag will be remains to be seen: these pocket money-priced purchases are available pretty sporadically across the globe, but the fact that this one has seemingly turned up in a store suggests it won’t be a gift-with-purchase through LEGO.com and LEGO Stores.

We can’t rule that possibility out altogether – 30654 X-wing Starfighter was available to buy at retailers earlier this year, then given away through official channels for May the 4th – but either way, keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for more details on 30653 Batman 1992’s distribution.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
