First look at LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong expansion set

An early listing from an Australian retailer has given us our first look at the teased appearance of Donkey Kong in the LEGO Super Mario theme.

Thanks to an Australian LEGO Certified Store, Bricks Mega Store, we’ve got our first look at LEGO Super Mario 71424 Donkey Kong’s Treehouse, on the heels of a teaser for a number of brick-built Donkey Kong characters. In 71424, it looks like we’ll get Donkey Kong and his grandfather Cranky Kong.

Labelled as an expansion set, the set appears to work with other LEGO Super Mario interactive sets. The description states that LEGO Mario, LEGO Luigi, or LEGO Peach figures can ride on Donkey Kong’s back to complete objectives, such as napping in the hammock, knocking a banana off the palm tree, ‘playing’ the conga drums, or visiting Cranky Kong, to earn digital coin rewards.

At 555 pieces, 71424 Donkey Kong’s Treehouse includes a buildable TV, radio and a secret compartment, recreating details from Donkey Kong games. In the Australian store, it’s priced at $94.99 (AUD), placing it at around £54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99 in other markets, judging from other similarly-priced LEGO sets.
