This set is absolutely jam-packed with more than 64 references to Marvel films, from Avengers Infinity War to Spider-Man No Way Home. We won’t spoil the best ones, but we love the Book of Cagliostro chained up in the back, the Tesseract hidden behind a fridge and the x-ray of the injury that ruined the doctor’s career as a neurosurgeon.

4 – It will fit in with your existing modular buildings

Not only will this set fit in with your modular street – the build process is remarkably similar, too. 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum is configured as a corner building. You start by attaching smooth tiles to a 32 x 32 baseplate, creating a sidewalk which matches up with existing modular buildings. Add some exterior decorations, then begin an assembly process that shifts between the construction of the walls, openings in the façade and interior furnishings as you move from one level of the building to the next.

3 – The instructions are split into three different books

The instructions are split into three separate books, one for each floor. Each book’s back cover features a circular illustration depicting the different portals behind the door on the first floor, adding an extra touch of excitement. We wonder if this is a nod to the older Creator Expert modular sets which did the same thing.

2 – This is the second Sanctum Sanctorum LEGO set

76108 Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown was released in 2018 and comprised 1,004 pieces. It was a much smaller model than the current 2,708-piece build and aimed at a younger audience. Popular opinion was that it was a decent set – just a bit smaller than what fans were hoping for. It wasn’t unusual for AFOLs to buy multiples of the set and create their own version to fit in with the Modular Building series.

1 – The box art refers to a different Phase of the MCU contradictory to the set

The timeline with this LEGO set is a little confusing. 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum was released alongside the release of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness as part of the Phase 4 MCU line-up. However, the art on the front of the box refers back to Phase 3, The Infinity Saga, which includes the original Doctor Strange film. However, the minifigures included in 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum are from the Phase 4 line-up of shows and films, including Zombie Doctor Strange (first seen in What If), The Scarlet Witch, and the new Sorcerer Supreme and Wong. But then, the minifigures can’t be based on Phase 4, because in Multiverse of Madness, neither Iron Man, nor Spider-Man appear in the film.
