Here’s how those LEGO City Minifigures were blasted into space

Recently, NASA’s Artemis moon mission launched with four minifigures on board, but they weren’t sitting loose in the spacecraft, far from it.

The LEGO Group’s social media team have revealed exactly how the four LEGO City minifigures that were recently launched into space were transported.

As part of the Artemis moon mission on November 16, these four passengers were packed in sealed specialised packaging complete with bubble wrap. This is similar to how most loose items are transported in such missions and it should have kept the minifigures safe and out of the way through their departure from earth.

These minifigures will likely remain in the packaging now as the Orion is uncrewed, but as pointed out in the comments, they will be keeping the craft company as its tests various equipment, including the heat shield, in advance of future attempts to establish a human presence on the moon.

These aren’t the first minifigures in space as recreations of Roman god Jupiter, his wife Juno, and Galileo Galilei are orbiting Jupiter aboard the Juno probe. Notably, a Galileo tribute is coming from LEGO Ideas in the future too.
