Supergirl has suffered a ‘tragic’ drop-off in its second weekend at the box office following poor early performance, putting another nail in the coffin for the LEGO DC theme beyond Batman.
LEGO DC has effectively been the LEGO Batman theme in all but name for the past five years, with the sole exception of a cameo appearance from Superman and Lex Luthor in a short-lived mech in January 2025. Comic book fans clamouring for wider DC representation were pinning hopes on James Gunn’s cinematic reboot to inspire the LEGO Group to look beyond the Dark Knight – but that’s seeming less and less likely by the day.

76302 Superman Mech vs. Lex Luthor was the only hint of a tie-in to last summer’s Superman, which arrived to a solid reception both critically and at the box office. But if the LEGO Super Heroes team (and/or Warner Bros.) was holding steady to judge audience mood around the wider DC pantheon before committing resources to its characters, Supergirl must be doing it no favours.
Against a budget of $170 million, the latest DC movie – starring Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Jason Momoa as Lobo – racked up only $37.1 million domestically during its opening weekend, and has now suffered what Variety’s calling a ‘tragic’ 74% drop-off in its second weekend. To date it’s pulled in just north of $100 million globally, and is projected to lose somewhere between $100 million and $120 million.

Those figures won’t make for fun reading for Gunn, Peter Safran and the rest of the DC head honchos, and they probably won’t inspire the LEGO Group to conjure up Supergirl sets either. The last time Supergirl appeared in a wide-release LEGO set was 2018’s 76094 Mighty Micros: Supergirl vs. Brainiac, and her only regular comic book appearances were in 2015’s 76040 Brainiac Attack and a 2016 LEGO Dimensions polybag.
If you want to add her to your LEGO DC collection, this is your sign to stop holding out for a new minifigure and turn to the aftermarket for one of those. Given the LEGO Group’s pre-existing hesitance to touch DC characters who aren’t dressed head to toe in black and hang out in caves, Supergirl’s box office performance suggests it’s probably going to be LEGO Batman forever.
This year’s LEGO Batman range (not LEGO DC, let’s be honest) includes a garage of Batmobiles and a Bat-logo for the character’s 20th anniversary in bricks.
