James Gunn confirms Superman is a ‘huge priority’ for the DCU

With James Gunn co-leading DC Studios, the filmmaker has confirmed that Superman is a priority for the DCEU following claims of sequel troubles.

It was previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter that the sequels of Wonder Woman 1984 and Man of Steel were in jeopardy following a change in leadership at DC Studios. As a reminder, Peter Safran and James Gunn are now co-leading the studios’ future endeavours with the DCU.

However, responding on Twitter to a question about Superman’s future in the DCU, James Gunn stated, “Yes of course. Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority.”

We know at least that Superman is still fresh in the minds of those at DC Studios and that the character is a major priority for the future, though no concrete details of when we’ll see Superman has been confirmed following his cameo in the most recent DC movie.

“Although this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of story takes time & we’re still just beginning,” responded James Gunn to the initial report.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for DC Studios and the DCU, but the immediate future includes a Blue Beetle movie in cinemas, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. We also know that future games will be set in the DCU.

From a LEGO perspective, there’s not much to look forward to for LEGO DC in 2023 with the only officially revealed items being a pair of keyrings, but there may more to come beyond January.
