It’s out now for VIP members (ahead of a wide release on March 8), and during this early access period comes with a free copy of 40630 Frodo & Gollum, which usually retails for £13.49 / $14.99 / €14.99.

You’ll need to be logged into your VIP account to order 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell before March 8, so make sure you’re signed in (or indeed, signed up) before making your purchase. The 6,167-piece set retails for £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99 and comes packed with 15 different characters, including the entire Fellowship of the Ring, Elrond, Arwen, Bilbo, two generic Elves and a dwarf (who may or may not be Gloin).
It’s far and away the largest LEGO The Lord of the Rings set to date, and also one of the biggest LEGO sets of all time in general, too. Its ambition is plain to see, from the unique approach to tiling its roof (no spoilers here, but there’s a trick to aligning all those tiles) to the multiple different methods to build Rivendell’s trees. You can find out more about 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell’s intricate techniques in our detailed review.
If you want to maximise returns on Rivendell, you’ll want to order before March 8 – when the set goes on general sale to the public, 40630 Frodo & Gollum will no longer be included as a free gift.

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
