LEGO 10335 The Endurance has been built in the perfect place

The historic LEGO Icons 10335 The Endurance has been built in the perfect place – in Antarctica near the real ship – by one fortunate fan.

When 10335 The Endurance sailed to shelves last November, the LEGO Group probably wasn’t expecting anyone to build the set in Antarctica, never mind take some stunning photos of the 3,011-piece model in the snow.

That’s exactly what vosper on the LEGO subreddit did this week though, sharing the results for fellow fans to see. They mention that it took two months for the model to arrive, meaning they must have ordered near launch day and only recently finished the model.

Vosper mentions in the comments that they reside in McMurdo Station in Antarctica working with support staff, presenting them with the perfect opportunity to build 10335 The Endurance. The LEGO Icons set is based on the titular ship, which famously sailed explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew of 27 men for the Antarctic before sinking. As impressive as this effort from the enthusiast already is, it gets more notable when you research the location of McMurdo Station.

McMurdo station is over 3,000 kilometres from the approximate location where the real Endurance sank in the Weddel Sea. That’s not exactly next door, but it’s closer than any other fan is going to get to build the LEGO recreation in the spot where the real ship resides.

10335 The Endurance is available now for £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99 and you can read our thorough review by clicking here. You might not have the chance to build the set in Antarctica, but at least vosper has done so for the rest of us, with accompanying photos to boot.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

Hey Jack!
Izzy here (A.K.A. Vosper). Thanks for the shoutout. This was a blast to build and probably one of the more complex sets I’ve ever built. You can read my full write up on Jay’s Brick Blog, who sent the kit to me in Antarctica. https://jaysbrickblog.com/news/lego-the-endurance-ship-10335-in-antarctica/

Thanks,
