LEGO Star Wars 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer includes surprise hidden bounty

One lucky builder already has their hands on the upcoming 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer – and they’ve revealed a surprise LEGO Star Wars bounty inside the Return of the Jedi set.

One of at least five LEGO Star Wars sets launching for this year’s May the 4th celebrations (alongside 75346 Pirate Snub Fighter, 75352 Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama, 75353 Endor Speeder Chase Diorama and 75355 X-wing Starfighter), 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer imagines Darth Vader’s personal ship at a more affordable and accessible scale than 2011’s mighty 10221 Super Star Destroyer.

But while the 630-piece set comes complete with a printed brick honouring Return of the Jedi’s 40th anniversary, maybe its best feature is actually a nod to a completely different Star Wars movie, tucked away inside the ship’s internal structure. If you want to keep it a surprise for your own copy of 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer, best to look away now – spoilers lie ahead…

Redditor Tom_LI615 managed to buy 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer ahead of its May 1 release date from Walmart in New York, and has now shared images of the set’s greatest Easter egg directly to the r/lego subreddit. Nestled under the angled hulls of the capital ship are seven stacks of two 1×1 round plates, each representing a different character from one of the Executor’s most iconic scenes.

That’s specifically from The Empire Strikes Back rather than Return of the Jedi, when Darth Vader meets with the galaxy’s most venerable bounty hunters aboard his flagship vessel. Recreated in tiny stud form are the Sith Lord himself, Boba Fett, Bossk, Dengar, IG-88, 4-LOM and Zuckuss – all of whom have been released in minifigure form over the years, allowing for direct comparisons to their larger LEGO counterparts.

Their nanoscale recreations (you can’t really call these microscale) lean into each character’s most iconic colours – Bossk is sand green and cool yellow; Boba is sand green and sand blue; Zuckuss is pearl gold and reddish brown – which makes them instantly recognisable. Not bad to say they only consist of two parts apiece…

This is also a handy alternative to recreating the bridge scene with LEGO minifigures, given some of the characters in this line-up (we’re looking at you, Zuckuss) are still pretty rare on the aftermarket. 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer launches May 1 and is available to pre-order at LEGO.com in the UK and Europe for £59.99 / €69.99. (Pre-orders have already sold out in the US.)

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
