LEGO Wednesday 76784 Black Dahlia Flower review
The LEGO Group has rendered Wednesday’s favourite flower (if she has such a thing) in 76784 Black Dahlia Flower, complete with a vase that offers more than meets the eye.
LEGO Wednesday 76784 Black Dahlia Flower is part Friends set, part Botanicals. The intricacy of the flower is slightly at odds with the childish nature of the mini-dolls and the playset hidden inside the vase, so it’s hard to know whether to judge it as a children’s build or an adult’s model – or both. Join us as we try to work out what to make of it in our in-depth review…

The build of 76784 Black Dahlia Flower starts off with the vase and tricks you into thinking this will be a fairly bland but inoffensive mini-dolls set. Leaning into the ‘Polly Pocket’ style that the first LEGO Wednesday sets capitalised on with the foldable vase, the set comes complete with various accessories that bring the would-be greenhouse to life.
The mini-doll for Wednesday debuts a new outfit, complete with the wedge clip-ons for her feet that really do scream Jenna Ortega’s version of the deadpan character. It’s also a LEGO first for Professor Marilyn Thornhill, armed with scissors and a tiny black dahlia. The inside of the conservatory is pretty packed – almost too full, making it hard to fit both mini-dolls on to their designated spots and close it at the same time.

The second half of the build is dedicated to the flower itself – and that’s where it becomes interesting. As this isn’t a LEGO Botanicals set, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the LEGO designers wouldn’t dedicate as much attention to this LEGO flower as they do to the actual plant theme. But you’d be wrong.
There are three layers that come together to form the petals, creating a depth that some flowers in the LEGO Botanicals bouquets don’t achieve. The black, blue, and purple colour scheme is surprisingly eye-catching for what’s otherwise quite a dark set, with the three coming together to create an almost oil-slick palette.

You can slot the flower into either the centre of the vase, which holds it together so it can’t be opened, or on to the end if you want to have it open to unveil the conservatory. It’s impressively sturdy, connected with Technic pins, and will easily withstand long-term display or some intrepid play even at the hands of younger builders.
All in all, 76784 Black Dahlia Flower delivers a surprisingly intricate build for what’s otherwise a well-priced playset. At £19.99, that’s only slightly more expensive than some solo flowers from the Botanicals range, so this is an affordable way to get your hands on a moody flower that you probably won’t see in the Botanicals theme anytime soon, complete with a brick-built vase to boot.
Our honest opinion: 76784 Black Dahlia Flower’s brick-built flower transforms the set from an inoffensive playset to a model worth displaying.
