Is LEGO Art the most versatile theme on the market?
LEGO Art 31208 Hokusai – The Great Wave brings plenty of new qualities to the theme, making it arguably one of the most versatile themes.
The latest addition to the LEGO Art theme shows a marked difference from the flat mosaics of the past and even from a similar set from LEGO Ideas that came just before, 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night. Where 21333 had several layers of studs that create a 3D effect, with trees and buildings protruding from the brick-built painting, 31208 Hokusai – The Great Wave remains slightly more flush with the frame.
That’s not to say it’s as flat as other builds, like 31207 Floral Art. The designers got creative with what pieces they can use to create a dynamic image, including white leaves and unprinted white birds. In our review, we noted that the build process is as close to an artistic process as yet seen from the LEGO Group.
Looking through all the LEGO Art sets, each one brings something new and exciting to the table and 31208 Hokusai – The Great Wave is no exception. With LEGO Art continuing to explore different artists and mediums, it seems to be challenging designers to use creative building techniques to create ever more impressive displays – and long may it continue.
