LEGO Avengers Tower was more than ten years in the making

LEGO sets are known for having long lead times but LEGO Marvel 76269 Avengers Tower has been in the works for more than ten years, according to the designers.

As a homage to a number of different versions of the Stark/Avengers Tower that spans various MCU movies, there’s no single version of the structure that inspired LEGO Marvel 76269 Avengers Tower. However, the idea was first sparked by the first time the building appeared on screen, as the Stark Tower that acts as a battleground for the Battle of New York. According to the designers who worked on the set in an interview with MiniSuperHeroesToday, the very first sketch at the LEGO Group was made all the way back in 2012, a full 11 years before the set has now finally come to fruition.

“The rough sketch would of course have to have been when the first Avengers film came out in the UK,” remembered LEGO Designer Justin Ramsden. “Then nine years ago, I joined and Marcos Bessa was making the original sketch. I got to help him tinker around with things but then it was put on the shelf for ages because we just didn’t know how we were going to do it. It’s just so tall and so big – and then 76178 Daily Bugle came along.”

“It’s always been there in the area,” added fellow LEGO Designer Mark Stafford. “It’s always been roughly this size but built quite differently to this, there was a lot more sideways building. 76178 Daily Bugle, I think, made it possible for this to go forward.”

After quite literally collecting dust, if Mark Stafford is to be believed, LEGO Marvel 76269 Avengers Tower is now finally on its way in a truly enormous size, making it one of the tallest LEGO sets of all time and with plenty of fun references hidden within its 5,201 pieces. Available from November 24, you’ll soon be able to pick 76269 Avengers Tower for £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99.
