Which LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 4 sets will sell out first?

Crowdfunding for Series 4 of the BrickLink Designer Program kicks off tomorrow – but which of its five fan-designed LEGO sets will sell out first?

Another quintet of LEGO sets designed by fans will be available to pre-order from 4pm GMT / 8pm ET on February 4, 2025. Each build that reaches 3,000 backers will enter production, with a maximum of 30,000 copies up for grabs. And based on previous rounds of the BrickLink Designer Program, we’ll likely see some sets sell through their entire allocation in less than 24 hours – while others may not sell out at all.

Looking back at what’s come before and judging interest levels (and general hype across the web) for the upcoming sets, here’s how soon we reckon each of the five Series 4 sets will sell out. At least one of these is bound to be snapped up quickly, so make sure you’re on the button when pre-orders go live to be in with a chance of claiming yours…

Medieval Seaside Market

LEGO Bricklink series 4 Medieval Seaside Market final 1 edited

LEGO Castle sets are the bread and butter of the BrickLink Designer Program at this point, and it’s not hard to see why so many medieval models make it through to the crowdfunding phase: they’re basically guaranteed to sell out. Bricks_fan_uy’s Medieval Seaside Market may not disappear as quickly as (for example) Mountain Fortress and Forest Stronghold, if only because there are two castle-themed sets in this round, but it’s not likely to last long.

Our prediction: Sold out within 24 to 48 hours

Riverside Scholars

Fan designer Harry Finkel (Hanwasyellowfirst) has managed to carve out an entire subtheme of his own in the BrickLink Designer Program, starting with the 2021 invitational precursor’s Mountain Windmill and continuing in Series 2’s Ocean House. The third set in this ongoing narrative is Series 4’s Riverside Scholars, and while it will probably be a strong seller, the two sets before it didn’t sell out – so this one might not either, especially with such strong competition in this series.

Our prediction: Will sell around 60% of its allocation

Merchant Boat

LEGO Bricklink series 4 merchant boat final 1 1024x779

Nicolas Carlier’s Merchant Boat looks the part and by all accounts serves up an interesting build, but its audience feels relatively narrow compared to some of the other sets in this series. And given the high prices of every model this round (there’s no token sub-£100 set this time), some tough decisions are probably going to have to be made. The Merchant Boat will sell well, but it won’t sell out. You heard it here first.

Our prediction: Will sell around 70% of its allocation

Wild West Train

While Western LEGO sets are thin on the ground (erm, non-existent) in 2025, Ilucky’s General Store in Series 1 only sold 75% of its allocation, so the market is perhaps not as big as you might first assume. That’s not the only demographic the builder’s Series 4 follow-up is gunning for, though – the Wild West Train will also have some appeal for LEGO train fans regardless of its Western trappings. It might not sell as rapidly as some, but we reckon it won’t hang around for long either.

Our prediction: Sold out within one week

Siege Encampment

LEGO Bricklink series 4 siege encampment final 1 edited

This is the big one: as early reviews have shown, Siege Encampment is the perfect accompaniment to 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle, and for many that will make it the set to go for ahead of Medieval Seaside Market. It’s an eclectic mix of smaller builds, but the end result is effectively an entire wave of LEGO Castle sets all in the one box – and that’s exactly what the community has been crying out for, so this one’s probably going fast…

Our prediction: Sold out within 12 hours

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

Hanwas did The Ocean House, not the Mushroom House in Series 2, and it did not sell out. That said, I am looking forward to adding Riverside Scholars to the group.
