LEGO City 2024 space set was built with mistakes in mind

LEGO City boasts the most number of new sets coming on January 1, 2024, including a wealth of space-themed sets – and one that was built with mistakes in mind.

From a space-based mech in 60428 Space Construction Mech all the way up to the huge 1,422-piece 60434 Space Base and Rocket Launchpad, there are plenty of LEGO City sets centred around space exploration coming in 2024. Among them is 60433 Modular Space Station, the second-largest set in the wave, which includes various different modules that can be arranged into a ring to float around in space or in a number of other structures to create your very own unique space station.

LEGO Designer Aaron Newman has celebrated the reveal of the set over on Instagram, as well as highlighting a recoloured element that anticipates younger builders making a mistake when using it

“It proved tricky to use those huge Technic 1/4 circle elements (appearing for the first time in sand blue!) for the central ring, because these elements actually have a ‘top’ side and a ‘bottom’ side, which seven-year-old builders probably won’t be able to tell the difference between,” Aaron wrote. “As such, I had to ensure that even if these elements are placed “wrong,” it won’t impede build flow or negatively impact stability.”

It’s careful thought like this that means LEGO City sets like 60433 Modular Space Station work for people of all ages, whether that’s a seven-year-old builder or a slightly distracted adult fan of LEGO. LEGO City 60433 Modular Space Station will be available to buy for £89.99 / $109.99 / €99.99 from January 1, 2024, alongside 26 other LEGO City sets.
