LEGO City soapbox racer build will be free later this month

The next Make & Take event has been revealed, and it will offer a tempting giveaway for those wanting a taste of the latest LEGO City range.

The LEGO City team have debuted a new range of soapbox racing models as part of the January 2025 range and while the sets cost as little as £8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99, there’s an even cheaper way to experience the new parts and experience.

A new Make & Take event has been officially confirmed for the UK and Ireland later this month with a small burger-inspired soapbox racer to match with the hot dog and pizza-based vehicles in 60460 No Limits: Race Car Ramp Track and 60460 No Limits: Race Car Ramp Track respectively.

In an uncommon move for these in-store events, there’s even a minifigure using the torso from 60460 No Limits: Race Car Ramp Track to enjoy in the free model. To pick up this creation, you’ll need to attend a qualifying LEGO store on January 18 from 10:00am to 12:00pm or January 19 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.

The racer will be available only on a first-come first-served basis while stocks last and the event is intended for children aged six and up. Should you be able to grab this model, you’ll get the new chassis and wheel elements without needing to pick up any of the LEGO City sets. Even if you miss out in-store at least the double packs aren’t expensive at £8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 each.

Right now, the event is only confirmed for the UK and Ireland but hopefully, it will make its way overseas at some point this year. The new LEGO City sets, including the full soapbox racing range, are available now.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
