LEGO CMF Space Blacktron II minifigure explained

One minifigure from LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71046 Series 26 Space is a deep cut back into LEGO space lore, so here’s a deep dive on everything you need to know.

Not only does Blacktron Mutant call back to Blacktron, it calls back to a specific era. Namely, it references Blacktron II, also known as Blacktron Future Generation, a continuation of the original Blacktron line. Running between 1991 and 1993, it was known for its updated colour scheme of black with white trim, M-Tron’s neon yellow canopies, and a new design for uniforms.

The faction revamp also replaced the interchangeability of Blacktron with refined and mostly uniform cockpit globes, introducing the ability to switch them between those ships.

Looking at Blacktron Mutant more closely, Brick Fanatics‘ Matthew has dug deep into the lore in a video exploring how Blacktron II fed into the creation of the mutant minifigure in 71046 Series 26 Space, soon to be available to buy from May 1. Check out the video below to make sure you know every detail about the minifigure before you buy.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
