LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 18 Vignettes: Birthday Cake Guy
It’s party time! The humble minifigure has been around for 40 years and Brick Fanatics is celebrating by presenting each character from Series 18 in a bespoke vignette
For 40 years, LEGO sets have been brought to life by the little characters known as minifigures. To celebrate that anniversary, the LEGO Group has released a special series of minifigures who are ready to party. [geot exclude_country=”United States”]Series 18[/geot][geot country=”United States”]Series 18[/geot] has more of the popular fancy dress characters than any wave before it, with the elusive classic Police Officer thrown in as a chase minifigure.
The latest Brick Fanatics build series presents a new vignette each day, one for each of the 17 new minifigures.
Birthday Cake Guy
I love the idea of Cake Suit Guy bursting out of a cake in the most awkward of places. I figured somewhere he really wouldn’t want to be is an old grungy warehouse filled with gangsters after a successful heist, but that is exactly what’s happened here.
This build actually came together a lot quicker than I thought. The 1×2 bricks with brick pattern really help to create a nice background without too much fuss and I’m really happy with the addition of the light bluish grey panels at the top to add height and detail.
I tried to include enough accessories and detail in the background to give the impression of an everyday kitchen, there’s even a 2×1 trans-blue tile in the sink, which just adds that final bit a detail. The only thing missing is a black half circle 1×1 tile for the mouse’s hole – sadly the LEGO Group don’t make that part in that colour yet so I had to make do with a regular 1×1 tile instead.

- I have more than 20 years in television production and photography and can finally put all that experience to good use by combining it with my number one passion in life, LEGO! I love all things brick-related, but the theme that really floats my boat is the original LEGO Pirates range. I currently have a LEGO wishlist that far outstretches my shelf space... and bank balance!
