LEGO could be about to announce a metaverse collab with Epic Games

The LEGO Group could be about to announce a big collaboration with Epic Games, according to online reports.

As reported in the Financial Times, the LEGO Group is expected to announce details of a metaverse collaboration with Epic Games, on the heels of publishing financial results that highlighted the success of digital investment for the company. WRAL Tech Wire suggests that such an announcement could well be planned for the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, which takes place between March 20 and March 24.

Almost a year ago, in April 2022, the LEGO Group owners committed to a significant investment in Epic Games, so this isn’t the beginning of a relationship between the two companies, but rather the continuation of one. It’s certainly a big deal, particularly with the possibility of heading into the metaverse.

LEGO products are already all about letting your imagination run wild and entering the metaverse could unleash even more possibilities. Being able to build or experience LEGO properties in the digital world would lead to even more immersive experiences.

What’s more, it would also open the door for possible LEGO crossovers with Epic Games’ titles, such as Fortnite, the game for which the studio is the most well-known. It’s been rumoured that LEGO elements would appear in the game before, with code suggesting the possibilities are already there.

We’ll have to wait and see what Epic Games and the LEGO Group announce (if and when they actually do) as to the nature of what the crossover will be. For now, we can only speculate.
