LEGO Create a Minifigure beta now available in the UK

The LEGO Group has launched a new Create a Minifigure tool online in the UK, offering an easier way to buy and build minifigures from Pick a Brick.

The online Pick a Brick service has long been a reliable way to stock up on minifigure parts, but you do need to know your way around it to properly take advantage, searching for the correct heads, torsos, accessories and so on by set or part number. The LEGO Group is clearly hoping to capitalise on army builders with its new Create a Minifigure tool, the aim of which is to make buying additional minifigure elements easier than ever.

It’s only available in the UK right now, but the beta service offers a quick way to assemble a minifigure from five parts: their head, torso, legs, headwear and an accessory. They’re priced based on the individual pieces selected, and the prices of those elements match their cost when buying through Pick a Brick. The assortment is the same between both services too, so this is basically just a different means to the same end.

It should prove handier than trailing through the entire Pick a Brick parts library, however, and make assembling an army of Lion Knights (for example) a much simpler and smoother process. You can create up to 40 unique minifigures in total, though it’s not clear whether that’s per order or per household. But there are no minimum service fees to navigate here as with Pick a Brick, and your minifigure parts will count towards normal free delivery thresholds (£50 in the UK).

The LEGO Group says it’s currently testing the tool before expanding it to other regions, but if everything runs smoothly the Create a Minifigure service should be available outside the UK eventually. Head over to LEGO.com to try it out for yourself if you’re in the UK.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
