LEGO Creator 31153 Modern House is one retiring set not to miss in 2025
LEGO Creator 31153 Modern House is not to be missed, packing play potential, great techniques and more in a gem of a set that’s retiring soon…
The LEGO Group’s recent brushes with modern architecture in lavish mansion models might seem at risk of being repetitive. Thankfully, there’s plenty in 31153 Modern House that helps it to stand out compared to both 42639 Andrea’s Modern Mansion as well as 21354 Twilight The Cullen House, and for a much more affordable cost.

Pieces: 939

The LEGO Group’s experience with modern architecture in recent years is entirely to the benefit of 31153 Modern House, presenting a more refined abode in which the two included minifigures can live out their luxurious lifestyle. The minifigures themselves are, as you would expect from a LEGO Creator set, nothing particularly special. They offer at least two somewhat notable elements to customise other characters: the sunglasses head and the brown hair piece, first seen in the LEGO Ideas BTS set. They don’t need to be the stars of this set and serve as accessories to the main build.
This stylish, nearly 1,000-piece home comes fully furnished with one bedroom, including a connected shower, a kitchen with a small dining area, a lounge with opening doors, a reading room with extensive views of the beach and much more to discover outside of the property. The exterior in 31153 Modern House is simple but effective and makes best use of all available space with plenty of details.
The pool may not be as deep as that of 42639 Andrea’s Modern Mansion, but at almost half the price of the Friends set, it’s exactly what minifigures need to relax while maintaining the infinity aspect. It features some transparent panels adjacent to the studded sands of the nearby beach, adding some class to the creation.

The beach area is small, yet has plenty of space for minifigures to stand around the brazier. You’ll have to use your imagination to expand into the water, but the focus of this set is almost entirely on the house itself. The addition of the small pier is appreciated, but it needs either a small boat or at least a fishing rod for minifigures to use on it.
Opening either the front door or the sliding doors leading to the sitting room, you’ll find an incredibly spacious home that comes furnished with almost everything minifigures need. The sitting room is a particularly good space, with its ergonomic chair design and the clever bookcase assembly. The coffee table downstairs is similarly smart, maintaining the modern design throughout every room – including the bedroom.
For better or worse, the bedroom is as modern as it gets, featuring a minimalist but stylish set of furniture with enough room for the two minifigures to enjoy the adjoining balcony. The only unusual part is the shower located next to the bed, with not even a panel of glass stopping any moisture from dampening the rest of the room. The shower itself is well-designed with its cobbled floor and the cute rubber duck, but it’s not exactly practical or realistic.

It’s not an inherently bad build, but one that doesn’t make any sense in the context of the home, and that’s completely ignoring the fact that this sole bathroom space comes with no toilet. The bedroom remains one of the most interesting spaces to construct, thanks to a thoughtful assembly that has one wall placed on its side and is securely fastened to the rest of the structure. When all is said and done, you can pick up 31153 Modern House in one hand with absolutely no fear of it falling apart. That’s an impressive achievement for a set of this size.
This pattern of notable building techniques is visible throughout the rest of the home as well, including for the beach loungers and the steps leading to a side door. 31153 Modern House was evidently a chance for the LEGO designers to stretch their creative muscles, and every part of this build provided a clear sense of joy when putting it all together. Nothing was particularly frustrating or repetitive.

LEGO Creator 31153 Modern House is the perfect build for any fan of modern architecture and home design that doesn’t quite have the budget for either 42639 Andrea’s Modern Mansion or 21354 Twilight The Cullen House. It will also be a perfect accompaniment to either or both of those builds and offers a different enough experience to justify more than one modern mansion in your collection.
31153 Modern House is one LEGO Creator set not to be missed either way before it retires at the end of 2025, packing in a lot for the price in a model that is easy to display, fun to play with and showcases a mix of simple and ingenious building techniques, all before you rebuild it into one of the two alternate home designs included in the price of £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99.
Our honest opinion: 31153 Modern House is a perfect alternative to the more expensive modern mansion sets on the market, letting designers stretch their creative muscles most effectively.
