LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31158 Sea Animals revealed

The LEGO Group’s latest Creator 3-in-1 set is 31158 Sea Animals, an underwater menagerie specifically designed to be bought three times.

While there are increasingly strong arguments for picking up multiple Creator 3-in-1 sets – the alternative builds are getting so good that you might want to build them simultaneously – 31158 Sea Animals is one of the few seemingly designed with that idea in mind. As revealed by retailer Lucky Bricks, each of the model’s three builds includes clips on its base, allowing them to connect together in one very wide display.

The main model offers the biggest collection of animals, including a sea turtle, crab, jellyfish, seahorse and a couple of additional fish (species on the back of a postcard, please). They’re all positioned on a slice of seabed decorated with deep-sea fauna, and it’s that display that can be hooked together with the two alternate builds for an expansive collection of underwater animals.

The other two builds consist of an octopus and squid and a pair of alternate fish respectively, and while they’re not quite as impressive solo as 31158 Sea Animals’ main model, they’re sure to look great if you combine them all together. That will require picking up three copies of the set, but the good news is that it’s not a wallet-buster.

According to Lucky Bricks, 31158 Sea Animals will retail for €29.99 in Europe, so we’re probably looking at around £24.99 in the UK and $29.99 in the US. That’s not a bad price for 421 pieces. 31158 Sea Animals will launch on March 1, alongside 31154 Forest Animals: Red Fox.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
