LEGO Friends designer shares inside perspective on summer wave

LEGO Friends designer Wes Talbott has shared the inside scoop on two sets from the huge upcoming summer wave of 2023.

LEGO designer Wes Talbott, who worked on LEGO 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, has shared concept sketches and inside perspectives on two soon-to-be-released LEGO Friends sets: 41747 Heartlake City Community Kitchen and 41748 Heartlake Community Center. Just a few weeks away from the set’s release, Wes has taken to Instagram to share expert insights on the upcoming sets, part of a mighty wave for the summer.

In one Instagram post, Wes highlighted how 41747 Heartlake City Community Kitchen aims to pair with the Community Centre (which he also worked on), as well as showcase the individual skills and interests of LEGO Friends characters.

“Designed to work with the format of the Community Center, this set focuses on Leo’s love of cooking and the importance of family recipes,” wrote Wes. “Thanks to Jose for giving the idea that Leo is learning to make his grandmother’s famous Mole Sauce. and Anne for the graphics, and thanks Elaine for all the special kitchen learning experiences that inspired me while making this.”

Writing in a separate post, Wes said: “I started with a sketch model from Gemma, and had a lot of fun playing with the differences on each floor.” He then went on to share the sketches from his LEGO Group colleague, showcasing how an idea can progress into a real-life set.

“I really enjoyed the simplistic layout of each floor which makes it super easy to play with and re-arrange,” Wes continued. “It was designed in tandem with the Community Kitchen which can be added to the bottom for an even taller building. I also had the opportunity to stretch outside of model design and create a decoration for the printed mural tile.”

Both of these sets, as well as the rest of the LEGO Friends summer wave, will be available to buy from June 1. Here’s a reminder of everything coming up in the theme this year.
