Previous LEGO gift-with-purchase now available to buy in the UK and Europe

A LEGO gift-with-purchase that was originally given away at the beginning of 2024 is now available to buy in the UK and Europe.

40611 Year of the Dragon is the latest in a long line of buildable animals hooked to the Lunar New Year, and like its predecessors was available in January with qualifying purchases. But in a rare move, the LEGO Group has now made the 214-piece set available to buy outright in the UK and Europe for £8.99 / €9.99.

That means it will count towards another gift-with-purchase, the currently-available 40689 Firework Celebrations, in a sort of circle-of-life moment. It’s not the first ‘Year of the…’ set to be available for purchase on its own, as 2019’s 40186 Year of the Pig was sold through LEGO.com in the US for $9.99, but it’s still rare to see a GWP of any sort available to buy separately.

It’s also good timing if you’re looking to top up a purchase to reach the £75 / €85 threshold for 40689 Firework Celebrations in the UK and Europe. That freebie is available until July 7, or while stocks last, and is itself timed neatly for the other new LEGO sets that have just launched today, including 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole and 10338 Bumblebee.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
