LEGO Ideas 21355 The Evolution of STEM has changed for the better

Danielbradleyy’s winning Knowledge is Power LEGO Ideas project has received a huge upgrade with specific minifigures and more in the final set.

The LEGO Ideas team always change some parts of the fan-designed projects before they are released as finished official sets, and that trend continues with 21355 The Evolution of STEM, which has received some major changes, almost entirely consisting of massive upgrades to Danielbradleyy’s winning submission.

Here’s everything that’s changed and stayed the same in the latest LEGO Ideas set, coming on March 1, 2025, for £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99.

The core concept of STEM remains

STEM – Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics – remains at the heart of the model, which makes sense given that this was the exact brief for the challenge that Daniel Bradley won.

The layout of the build has stayed roughly the same too, including the city on the right and desks in the middle. The greenery on the left has now changed to a tree scene featuring Isaac Newton though, keeping the green thumb and biology but representing physics more at the same time too.

We have lift-off

Instead of the shuttle sitting at the centre of the build with the satellite and a bee flying above the build, the shuttle has joined the latter two builds in the sky with a strand of DNA lifting them above the rest of the model.

This small change has a significant effect on the shape of the LEGO Ideas set, expanding the size of the set to be more vertical than initially proposed.

A more specific minifigure selection

Instead of including generic minifigures of a scientist, economist and an architect, LEGO Ideas 21355 The Evolution of STEM has been upgraded to include tribute minifigures of Sir Isaac Newton, Marie Curie and George Washington Carver.

They have standout accessories too and certainly add some great appeal to the educational LEGO Ideas model.

Bigger and better

DanielBradleyy’s original submission uses just 528 pieces but 21355 The Evolution of STEM has taken that total to 879 elements. The footprint of the model has changed too, expanding from 26 studs wide and 14 studs deep to 26 studs wide and 20 studs deep but the final set is also much taller.

The many changes to the model stay true to the core concept and from the builds to the minifigures, it’s clear that LEGO Ideas 21355 The Evolution of STEM is a major upgrade to the original submission.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
