LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons 2024 set balances appeal to fans and non-fans
The LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons 2024 set has been decided and the winning result represents a healthy balance between D&D fans and newbies alike.
Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is estimated to have 50 million global players as of January 2023, so the LEGO collaboration clearly has an enormous potential market. Nonetheless, the selected set toes a clever line between appealing to the (even bigger) masses as well as hardcore D&D fans.
BoltBuilds’ Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End includes a number of game-specific features, such as a dragon, a beholder, changing doors to allow for different routes to be taken and stories to be told, a witches’ tower, a tavern, a dungeon, and a crypt. Apart from that, however, it’s also a dramatic castle build that, even if the LEGO Group veers away from the original design, would make an impressive addition to any LEGO collection.
In comparison to the other proposed sets, Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End is perhaps the most familiar fantasy scene, while the other four focused on more niche elements of D&D. While some fans of the game would be keen for this, the choice to go with Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End is likely the smartest choice in terms of general appeal.
No further details have been released about the set, but it’s believed at least three LEGO Ideas sets will be released in 2023. Here’s a reminder of what’s on its way.
