LEGO Ideas Jaws’ rumoured price suggests something unique

The rumoured disproportionate price and piece count for the upcoming LEGO Ideas Jaws set suggest that the set has something unique to it.

Rumour has it, according to Redditor Clay_bricks(via brick_clicker) that the upcoming LEGO Ideas Jaws model will feature 1,497 pieces for $159.99. For LEGO Ideas sets, that’s a notably disproportionate piece count compared to the price.

While we mentioned the recent price increases in our initial report, it’s worth noting that 21347 Red London Telephone Box is $114.99 for 1,460 pieces and 21338 A-Frame Cabin is $179.99 for 2,082 pieces and both were released after the price increases.

Keeping these statistics in mind, 21350 Jaws’ rumoured price of $159.99 for 1,497 pieces doesn’t make complete sense, unless it’s just expensive. 21335 Motorised Lighthouse is in a similar situation to this with 2,065 elements for $299.99. In that set, the disproportionate price and piece count is explained by the included electronic elements and once-unique Fresnel lens piece.

It may be that the upcoming LEGO Ideas Jaws set is employing a similar strategy, should the rumoured details be accurate. One method to explain the price and piece count could be the addition of the larger moulded shark element featured in 60379 Deep-Sea Explorer Submarine, or an entirely new element for the iconic shark.

An electronic element could also feature in 21350 Jaws too as 76429 Talking Sorting Hat recently debuted a new kind of sound brick. The technology could be used effectively in the LEGO Ideas set to play the iconic theme by John Williams at will.

Whatever the case may be, 21350 Jaws is rumoured to cost $159.99 with 1,497 pieces and it could be that the set is priced this way with no unique components, aside from some likely exclusive minifigures. Take all rumoured details with caution until more is officially confirmed.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

I have been purchasing Lego for over 35 years for my son who has never stupped building. Lego has finally done it though, they have priced me out. Obviously Lego is know longer interested in attracting new, young, builders because no parent could afford more than just the small basic sets. Even back in the day if my son had his eye on a big set we would save all year to buy it and that was his Christmas. Parents now struggle to feed their kids. Lego has gone pro and the kids will be left behind. You’re getting greedy.
